Incremental search is a user interface interaction method to progressively search for and filter through text. In Expression Web, Incremental Search, searches the text as you type, and as soon as a match is found it immediately presents it to you. Incremental Search gives you an advantage, to stop short of typing the entire word or phrase you are looking for.

How to search incrementally?

1.       Open the page or CSS file you want to search and place the cursor where you want to begin your search.

2.       Go to Edit > Incremental Search. Your cursor would now change to .

3.       Now just type in the characters you want to search. The status bar would display the characters as you type them, and the first occurrence of the letters you have typed, would be highlighted in the page.

4.       To locate and move to the next occurrence of the characters press F3 and to go to the previous instance press SHIFT + F3.

To stop the incremental search either press Esc, or Enter or just click somewhere in your page.

A web site is viewed by viewers using different screen resolutions and window sizes. Hence it is difficult to identify how the page would look in different resolutions and window sizes. But with Page settings in Microsoft Expression Web 2, while designing your page you can determine what portion of the page will be visible to all the site users without having them to scroll down or right.

Let us take a look at various page size settings

1.       To view the page size setting of current page

·         Either go to View menu > Page Size. The current page size is displayed at the top of the list as Current Page Size, with a small check mark next to it.

·         Or click on the page size displayed on the status bar.

Other page sizes are also listed in the menu.

2.       To apply a new page size, choose a new page size either from the given list or click on Modify Page Sizes… from the menu, to launch the Modify Page Sizes dialog box as shown below:

As you can see, there is a list of page sizes along with their matching standard screen resolutions like 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, and so on. Microsoft Expression Web automatically picks up the value that matches your current screen resolution and all other lower values. Window sizes that are larger than your screen resolution are not available.

3.       To add, modify, or remove a page size setting

In the Modify Page Sizes dialog box, do one of the following:

·         To add a new page size, click Add, and then enter the Width, Height, and Description.

·         To modify a page size, select the page size, click Modify, and then enter the new Width, Height, and Description.

·         To remove a page size setting, select the page size, and then click Remove.

A page transition is a visual effect with which a page opens or closes. For example, fading, wiping out. You can add a page transition to multiple pages in a website.

Adding a page transition

Go to Format menu > Page Transition to launch the Page Transition dialog box (shown below).

Choose following options in the Page Transitions dialog box:

Event: Select the event for which the page transition should occur. You have four events to choose from;

1.       Page Enter – when a page opens in a browser.

2.       Page Exit – when a page loses its focus.

3.       Site Enter – when a web site is opened for the first time.

4.       Site Exit – when the web site loses its focus.

Duration (seconds):  Enter the duration in seconds, for which the page transition effect should last.

Transition effect: Choose the type of transition effect you want to apply.

NOTE: You can add transitions to more than one event, but be careful as to not create too many flashy effects as it may lead nuisance to the viewer and may not visit your web site again.
